Vatulele covers about 12 square miles and is south of
Fiji's largest island Viti Levu. Totally unspoiled by western
influences, the local population of about 900 earn their living from
subsistence farming, fishing and from making tapa cloth.
Vatulele is a casual and very informal resort and many
guests choose to come barefoot to dinner. The staff will call you by
your fist name but make no mistake, both food and service are
first-class and Vatulele is famous for its distinctive cuisine,
which melds local and international influences. An excellent wine
cellar is also there for your pleasure and indulgence. Dining is
usual communal, hosted by the resort's management and enjoyed under
the stars by the resort's main lounge and bar pavilion. However,
guests can dine privately at a variety of romantic settings - on the
beach or on a rocky promontory overlooking the sea.
Activities are many and varied, from jungle walks and
village cultural visits (strictly regulated to preserve local
culture and mutual respect) to kayaking, snorkeling, tennis and
fishing. All equipment is supplied. Vatulele also has resident dive
instructors and is Gold Palm Five Star PADI.
There are eighteen villas or bures. All are identical
and are extremely spacious. The bedroom features a king bed and
separate dressing area and is raised above the living room for a
touch of intimacy. The private bathrooms have large showers. Twelve
louvered doors open onto an expansive private terrace, which follows
the curve of the magnificent beach. |
